|
Students taking 9 or more credit hours are automatically billed $1,378.00 for student health insurance for spring 2026. You can find more information regarding the plan on our Student Health Insurance website.
If you have comparable insurance and would like to cancel the plan the Student Health Insurance Enrollment and Waiver site is open through Feb. 28, 2026. You will find the link to Enroll/Waive in the blue box on our website. This is an online process only.

The waiver deadline is firm; therefore, students who do not waive the student health insurance by Feb. 28 will be enrolled for annual coverage under the plan and no refund will be given.

"One thing that has pleasantly surprised me about NIU is the number of opportunities available to students. I didn’t expect to get involved in research, leadership and campus life so early in my college career, but NIU makes those experiences accessible and encourages students to take part. I’ve found that professors, advisors and staff are genuinely supportive and want to see students succeed, which has made my time here even more meaningful."

"Get out to events and guest-speaker events hosted by members of the community. You can set yourself apart from your peers by making friends with local employers and former Huskies, and those connections can lead to future career ventures and lifelong partnerships. What you do in the classroom is important, but what you do in the community can open doors that will help you for the rest of your life."
